TEMPORARY LICENSURE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONALS
By: John Kasprak, Senior Attorney
You asked whether the state had ever passed legislation allowing the temporary licensure of health professionals from other states for a particular event or situation. (You ask this in relation to a Department of Public Health (DPH) legislative proposal. )
Legislation of this nature was enacted in 1995 for massage therapists. PA 95-328 allowed DPH to issue a temporary license to an out-of-state massage therapist who (1) was licensed in another state with licensure standards commensurate with Connecticut's, or if no license or certification was required in the other state, had a current membership in the American Massage Therapy Association and (2) volunteered his services for the 1995 Special Olympics from July 1, 1995 to July 10, 1995. The temporary license was valid only for uncompensated massage therapy services for the 1995 Special Olympics.
