UCONN ATHLETIC FACILITIES
By: Jennifer Gelb, Research Attorney
You asked if high school groups may use the University of Connecticut's (UConn) athletic facilities.
According to Lorraine Gan of UConn's athletic department, outside groups can use UConn's facilities, with certain limitations. She says five high schools played football games at UConn this year due to problems with their home facilities. UConn occasionally allows high schools to hold track meets on its indoor track. These uses typically occur during the intersession or summer session, when they do not conflict with use by UConn's athletic teams.
UConn has facilities for its athletic teams and others for student recreation. Recreation shares some of the facilities with the athletic department, including the basketball courts and the indoor and outdoor tracks, when student athletes are not using them. No person under 18 may use the facilities during recreation time, for liability reasons. Any high school groups wishing to use UConn's facilities must arrange such use with the athletics department.
