Substitute Senate Bill No. 308

AN ACT CONCERNING A STATE-WIDE 311 NUMBER AND A REVERSE 911 NUMBER.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective July 1, 2002) The Department of Public Utility Control shall, within available appropriations, in conjunction with the Department of Public Safety and Infoline of Connecticut, develop a plan for the implementation of a state-wide nonemergency governmental telecommunications service to be known as 311 service. Not later than January 1, 2003, the Department of Public Utility Control shall submit such plan to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to energy and technology in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes.

Sec. 2. (Effective July 1, 2002) The Department of Public Safety shall, within available appropriations, develop a plan for the implementation of a state-wide reverse 9-1-1 system. Not later than January 1, 2003, the department shall submit such plan to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to public safety in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes.
