AN ACT CONCERNING THE SUPPLY OF POTASSIUM IODIDE TABLETS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
Section 1. (Effective October 1, 2002) The Office of Emergency Management, in consultation with the Departments of Public Health, and Environmental Protection and the Office of Policy and Management, shall develop a plan for the stockpiling and distribution of potassium iodide tablets for use in the emergency planning zone surrounding the Millstone nuclear power station established by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the event of an occurrence, incident or other abnormal circumstance involving the possible release of radioactive iodine. On or before January 1, 2003, the Office of Policy and Management, in conjunction with the Office of Emergency Management, shall issue a report to the joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to energy and technology and public health, outlining: (1) The activities involved in developing and implementing the plan, (2) the methodology of tablet distribution, and (3) a description of the role of potassium iodide as a component of the state's overall nuclear emergency response plan and activities.
